Graphics Terms

animated gif:
format, often used on World-Wide Web pages to provide moving icons and banners. The format allows multiple "frames" that give the impression of motion when displayed in sequence, much like a flip book.

crop:
Photography . to cut off or mask the unwanted parts of (a print or negative).
dpi:
dots per inch: a measure of the resolution of a typesetting machine, computer screen, etc

jpeg:
a set of standards and file format for compression of digital color images.
mirror:
something that gives a minutely faithful representation, image, or idea of something else
resolution:
the degree of sharpness of a computer-generated image as measured by the number of dpi in a hard-copy printout or the number of pixels across and down on a display screen.

pixel:
any of a number of very small picture elements that make up a picture, as on a visual display unit
fps (frames per second):
The unit of measurement of the frame rate(number of frames in an animation that are displayed everysecond) of a moving image.

file extension:
The portion of a filename, following the final point, which indicates the kind of data stored in the file - the file type. Apart from informing the user what type of content the file holds, filename extensions are typically used to decide which program to launch when a file is "run"

bmp:
Microsoft Windows bitmap format. Bmp files may use run-length encoding.
This graphics format is when compression actually enlarges the file.

frame:
the information or image on a screen or monitor at any one time.
Compression:
Also called data compression. reduction of the storage space required for data by changing its format.

flip:
to move (something) suddenly or jerkily.
morph:
to transform (an image) by computer.
frame buffer:
Part of a video system in which an image is stored, pixel by pixel and which is used to refresh a raster image. A frame buffer holds one frame from a sequence of frames forming a moving image.

video card:
A circuit board fitted to a computer containing the necessary video memory and other electronics to provide a bitmap display.
CPU:
central processing unit: the key component of a computer system, which contains the circuitry necessary to interpret and execute program instructions.
colour depth:
The number of bits of information stored per pixel of an image or displayed by a graphics adapter. The more bits there are, the more colours can be represented, but the more memory is required to store or display the image.

  1. That is good work so far, but there are a few definitions that you need to look at again. Flip and mirror are not really talking about graphics and crop is used in more than photography.
